Alan Banks is a Senior Associate of the AHC Group, joining our group in 2004 and agreeing to participate as our lead financial risk advisor through 2009.
Having graduated from Oxford University with a Masters in Engineering, Alan Banks qualified as a Chartered Accountant and has spent most of his career in the financial services industry as a strategy consultant, leading equity analyst and senior investment banker.
**He has originated and led more than 50 public debt and equity capital raisings and cross-border M&A transactions totaling more than $50 billion.
After leaving investment banking in 1997, Alan completed as CEO a management buyout of a specialist equity research company.
**Re-branding this company as Core Ratings, he built it into one of the leading governance, environmental and social research companies.
Combining this 'soft' analysis with the 'hard' financial analysis techniques learned as an investment banker, he developed market-leading methodologies for analyzing the equity risk premium/discount rate used in investment calculations. Alan Banks brings this skill base, methodology, and business savvy to a range of AHC Group clients and Corporate Affiliates-often working thru existing clients and the AHC Group's Corporate Affiliates benchmarking workshops.
These management and investment insights allow companies to quantify the shareholder value effect of governance, environmental and social issues and to benefit from any improvements they make in these areas. His ground breaking work has been extensively reported in articles in academic, financial and trade journals.
**Alan sold Core Ratings to Fitch Ratings in 2003.
Alan has extensive knowledge of environmental legislation in both the USA and Europe.
**Spotting a developing market opportunity, and being interested in directly solving environmental problems, he set up and is CEO of Losonoco: a waste-to-biofuels company. Losonoco builds and operates integrated bio-refineries that convert municipal and agricultural waste into fuel grade ethanol. The process significantly reduces landfill use, generates substantial overall reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, and provides a sustainable, renewable fuel.
**Alan is also a Board Director and Member of the Investment Committee of a UK-based private equity firm that invests in companies commercializing declassified defense technologies. In this capacity, Banks has served several clients for the AHCGroup in these areas of expertise since 2004.
In his spare time Alan enjoys skiing, sailing, and the opera and he is Chairman of The Olympian Arts Trust, a charity that creates exhibition space for young artists in order to bring their work to the attention of the broader arts community.
